Pretty Persuasion

Just as filler I was going to post some "summer songs" (pretty lame) when I remembered that this album has a song that sounds suspiciously like Radiohead's Paranoid Android. So here it is with the great b-side Summertime.
by the way the new Thom Yorke LP is excellent.

Lou Swede

Remember Blue Swede's hit version of Hooked On A Feeling? Unfortunately I do. That's why I was surprised to see they did a cover of the Velvets' Rock and Roll on the followup LP Out of the Blue. It sounds like a cross between the Mitch Ryder version and the Runaways' version only worse. I hope Sheila likes it.

The Billy Goats Gift

In honor of The Velvet Underground's The Gift having been chosen for the Terrible Songs on Great Albums List by Rolling Stone I am posting a "mash-up" of The Gift and Steven Tyler's reading of The Three Billy Goats Gruff .

Godfathers of Grunge ?

I like Neil Young (almost) as much as the next guy but I never understood why he was labeled the Godfather Of Grunge. I know Ragged Glory had a heavy guitar sound and he did a whole album with Pearl Jam (remember that classic?) but it doesn't sound like grunge to me. When I see this James Gang video, however, I think pure nirvana.

A Richer Understanding

always loved double nickels on the dime (and 3-way tie for last) but I never really knew what the minutemen were all about until now. this is great stuff. if you don't already know all the lyrics to the songs i recommend watching it with the subtitles on. this dvd came highly recommended by Bruce who runs a Mike Watt website and is mentioned in the credits of the film. he is also the one who sang every word to every song on double nickels in my car on the way home from a bob mould (i think it was mould) show which made me think "maybe i should pay more attention to this record." i did. thanks.
